Kor Landfall 1

So, as promised (though a bit later than I originally intended), my modified Kor Landfall deck. I’ll be testing this in tonight’s session.

Land Really Does Matter

Got a chance to try out my first real Zendikar-themed deck today. Inspired by Monty’s article a few weeks back entitled Living the Dream, I put together a green/white small creature landfall deck. The core combo is pretty straight-forward: have a creature on the battlefield (preferably one with Landfall already, like a Steppe Lynx, but the Kor Duelist works just as well), drop an artifact or two on it, and Harrow or Khalni Heart Expedition your way into hitting with a really big creature.

I found this deck ran out of steam mid-game, but that is partially due to our format (three player, shared-planar deck Planechase). It has a lot of potential, but most importantly, it really brought me into the play style that Zendikar encourages. I found myself holding lands (like my Terramorphic Expanses), waiting for just the right moment to fire off a massive Landfall cascade. And I found that bouncing lands like the Alara Panoramas (yes, I’m playing with Panoramas) with a Kor Skyfisher gives me a bit of a Landfall edge too. I’ve got a few tweaks I want to make, so look for a deck list later today. But I think, we’re officially into the wild world of Zendikar!

Memorable moments:

• Planeswalking to Lethe Lake, and decking myself (combined, my two opponents rolled Chaos 4 times; couple that up with the two turns I spent alive on this plane (milling for 10 each upkeep)). I am always the target of milling effects like this because, in my playgroup, I am that one annoying player who enjoys playing a Mill deck.
• Planeswalking to Stronghold Furnace, and attacking with a Kor Duelist, equipped with an Adventuring Gear. Unfortunately, I never got around to actually pulling off a  Harrow or Khalni Heart Expedition along with it though. When at Stronghold Furnace, the Kor Duelist becomes a very tempting target for spot removal spells like Terminate.

Butchered my first chicken today. It was not as daunting as you might think. In fact, it was quite fun! And my breast cuts turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself.
